Ordering is open ( sorry I forgot to enable it sooner) . You can now place orders for Friday and Saturday pick up and at the Sidney Farmers Market. Please get those orders in by Thursday night because I start all the dough Friday Morning! Tuesday orders need to be in by Sunday.

We will have radishes, some beets and carrots, pac Choi, asparagus, lettuce, and herbs available for in person shopping Friday and Tuesday afternoons 2-6:30.

It’s been busy on the farm this week. Tomatoes are being strung, sweet corn and field corn have been planted, hay has been cut and will be going in the barn today , along with all the normal ventures . Have a great week.

Eggs, eggs, and more eggs!

We have lots of eggs so please stop in anytime! The small eggs are slowly getting larger. We might have a slight dip in the number of large eggs until they do because we had a small massacre of the old ladies earlier this week. We found at least 8 carcasses and it could have been more. Matt staked out the coops for a few night but we are still unsure who the culprit was. We also lost one of the younger chickens a few nights later to another predator. Let’s just say it wasn’t a great week to be a chicken.

This weekend, Saturday 6-9, is the opening of the Rustbelt Fibershed’s One Year One Outfit program at Wave Pool Art Center in Cincinnati. All 24 outfits are locally made with locally sourced materials (within 250 miles of Cleveland ). Grumpy Goat has worked with the amazing Katie Pfohl on one of the outfits that will be displayed , showcasing our locally grown fiber from the sheep and goats! You can stop into wave pool during their open hours between Saturday May 13th and June 17th.

Have a great week!

Egg sale this week, no online ordering for next week

Hello everyone,

It’s been another busy spring week here. The fields are being prepped for crops, the animals will start being moved to pasture today, veggies are growing, soap an jam are being stockpiled. Mini ages are on sale this week for $2.25 so get two of them for the price of one regular sized dozen!

The newest, and still unnamed cat that showed up in the middle of winter had kittens! Four of them, though they got a bit tangled in their umbilical cords so we are treating one with antibiotics now and he will be having a leg amputated in a couple weeks. We are hoping to find new homes for all of them (2 boys, 2 girls) around 12 weeks old so if you’ve been contemplating getting a cat we can definitely let you come visit once they reach 2 weeks old (so mama cat has some alone time to bond). Mama cat is super lovey and friendly now so I have high hops that all these guys will be lovers.

We might be single handedly employing the vets office these days. So along with Tripod, the three legged kitten, we are also treating a goat for ringworm. As of now it is just one small patch on one goat but we ask that you refrain from petting the goats this week while we make sure it is under control. Ringworm is actually just a fungal infection but it can be passed to humans so better be safe than sorry.

One of our rams is also being treated for arthritis, which is what happens when you have an aging population of animals and most of our sheep are in the elderly range at this point.

And Griswold the Bernese mountain dog has been diagnosed with an ineffective pancreas so we will have to start supplementing him with raw pancreas at every meal. If anyone knows a source of pig or cow pancreas, us vegetarians are now in the market for some!

Tomorrow We also will be welcoming back three of our goats sold previous years. Unfortunately the home they went to are selling the farm so we will have goats looking for new pastures if you are interested in a fiber pet of your own!!!!

And just a heads up I will be leaving the market closed for ordering this week. You are more than welcome to come in next Tuesday for eggs, honey , and syrup but there won’t be any bread available. Thanks for understanding.

Hello everyone! I know it’s been a while since you heard from us but we have been busy on the farm. All the sheep and goats have had their spring spa day and should start heading to pasture next week. The bees are unwrapped, a few splits made, and swarm traps going up. Matt continues to plant seeds and we have outplanted our first pac Choi and lettuce yesterday.

And guess what! We have some arugula ready to cut for Tuesday! It does have some sun spots on it and flea beetle holes (they are already winning the battle against us) but it’s all delicious. So stop in the store Tuesday if you want any.

Our newest chickens have also started laying – wooohooo! The eggs are smaller so we will have some mini egg cartons available for $3 (they are labeled ‘mini eggs’ – any unlabeled are regular sized eggs).

We also have out the last of our fall honey. There are only a couple 2 pounders and about 6 1/2 pounders left. I took them off the online ordering so we wouldn’t oversell so if you need some stop in before they are gone. The next honey won’t be extracted until late May, early June if the bees have enough.

Stop on out Tuesday 2-6:30 !

Planting has started on the farm. Snow, snap, and shelling Peas and fava beans were direct sewn this week and flats of the cooler weather crops are started. We finally replasticed the large high tunnel on the beautifully calm Sunday. It was much needed and should stay toasty in there now that there are no gaping holes. We also sheared the sheep Friday and are busy skirting the wool so we can get it off to the mill and out of our dining room! And we have shorn 4 of the goats. Just 11 to go. Baby watch will start in about 2 weeks!!!! Stay tuned.

Ordering is now turned on for next Tuesday pick up!

Oops. Just realized I never opened ordering this week. If you want anything for pick up on Tuesday it is now open.

Stop by Brukner Nature Center in March and you’ll find some Grumpy Goat Birdhouses and lip balms. You can support the nature center and us at the same time!

And if you see Matt this week wish him a happy birthday- it’s a big one!

Maple syrup is back in stock! We’ve been in the sugar shack all week long and have bottled 10 gallons so far. Prices will remain the same $8 for 8oz and $12 for 12 oz. If anyone wants a quart jar shoot us a message as they will be limited in supply 32oz for $30.

We also have quite a few eggs in the fridge right now. If you didn’t already notice, eggs are now $4.50/dozen to accommodate for inflation and the fact that we are switching everyone over to all organic supplemental feed.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We are open for orders.

Well, it’s been a while! We’ve been enjoying this down time, working on projects that never happen throughout the growing season. Matt has been busy perfecting his watercolors and I have been madly spinning as I’m trying to weave a skirt for the Rustbelt Fibershed’s One Year One Outfit project. And I’m behind!

Anyways we hope that everyone’s holidays were wonderful.

Seeds are ordered as we begin to think about this years garden. Sheep hooves are being clipped and goat mama’s baby bumps are starting to show! Spring is right around the corner.

And FYI we will be reevaluating all of our prices soon so please be prepared when some might rise- I’m looking at you eggs!

The market is back open for bread orders for Tuesday pick up. See you soon!

We have a very limited supply of syrup remaining but still plenty of honey! I also have a fresh batch of peach red raspberry low sugar jam in the water bath now. Comment if you want any because I haven’t had time to list yet.
